Writing skills allows students to supplement their scafolding process. Writing leads the student to develop their greatest skills (HOTS) because in order to write properly must also perform adequately readings, listening activities and quite possibly oral explanations of what was going to write
It requires serious planning and feedback process to be brought to fulfillment.

Listening activities
Listening is a crucial element in the communication process with not only understanding and correct interpretation of the contents of the message, but also support the sender receives from the receiver while reaffirming expressed. But listening is not easy.
In these sessions I learned that listening activities can be transferred to the respective views in other skills such as reading sessions and express themselves. And these skills the teacher should help the student out of the shadows through its activities promueban scaffolding in to a HOTS

ACTIVITY NUMBER 2
REFRACTIVE ERRORS INTRODUCTION
Name:
_____________________________________________________ Date: ________________
Purpose: To structure the content of their
final project “the newspaper” about refractive errors by means of writing a
paragraph.
A.
Discuss with your partner the
following question and share with the class
1. Do you think refractive errors cause
blindness?
B.
Read de following paragraph
The
global initiative, Vision 20/20: The Right to Sight, established by the World
Health Organization (WHO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of
Blindness, has created valuable and effective collaborations of organizations
involved in a wide range of eye care and community healthcare activities aimed
at the elimination of avoidable blindness and impaired vision.
Vision
2020’s major priorities are cataract; trachoma; onchocerciasis; childhood
blindness, and refractive error and low vision. These have been selected not
only because of the burden of blindness that they represent but, also, because
of the feasibility and affordability of interventions to prevent and treat
these conditions. It is only recently that uncorrected refractive error has
achieved prominence as a major cause of functional blindness and significantly
impaired vision, as a result of landmark population-based studies in adults,
children and in post-cataract patients. Apart from individuals who have taken
an active role in the elimination of diseases such as onchocerciasis or have
been in cataract teams, optometrists have had little opportunity to take part
in the front line elimination of four of the major, preventable
blindness-producing conditions targeted by Vision 20/20. The realization of the
impact of uncorrected refractive error has provided the opportunity for
optometry to play a major part in alleviating vision loss for those most in
need.
1. What would be an ideal title for the
reading?

2. What it is the main idea of the
reading?
![]() |
3. What would be the reason why
refractive defects cause blindness? Select the right option, based on the reading:
a. There is a big part of the
population that doesn`t have access to a pair of glasses
b. Because with glasses we can improve the
vision
c. Refractive errors don`t cause
blindness
d. Refractive errors can cause cataract,
trachoma and onchocerciasis
4.
Think
of this question: How could you contribute
as an optometrist to reduce blindness?
·
Make
a list of the possible ways to contribute as an optometrist to reduce blindness

·
Share
your ideas with your class partners
·
Think
of sentences that expand each contribution, don’t forget to use the transition
words: and / so / as a consequence, in collaboration with, by creating, by
helping, etc.
